Being a foster parent is a highly rewarding and satisfying experience! Mommy and Me Kitten Rescue depends on our fosters and could not rescue the number of Momma Cats and Kittens we rescue without there help.
Being a foster parent is critical to our mission of saving the lives of homeless cats and kittens—and the more fosters we have, the more cats and kittens we can save and find loving homes.
Being a foster parent requires opening up your home, a room, or part of your home to give a needy cat(s) the space, safety, attention, care, and feeding necessary to rehabilitate it and prepare it for adoption. It is not something to be taken lightly, but carries the commitment and responsibility of caring for the cat until the cat is adopted, which can be a week or one to two months, or sometimes longer. Each cat’s situation is different and varies depending on the particular cat or kitten.
MMRK foster parents are supported by a sponsor/member to provide guidance on how to care for your particular foster cat. We try to furnish each foster with necessary supplies, including medical support, but we depend on the foster to provide cat food, litter, and lots of love!
We especially need assistance during the late spring and summer months, as kitten season always means a surplus of kittens to care for. MMKR can always use experienced bottle-baby feeders or families looking for the experience of helping kittens and mama cats.
Typical foster responsibilities include:
- Daily feeding of your foster cat(s) or kittens. (Our kitties eat good quality cat food and expect fosters to provide this to their fosters.)
- Daily litter box cleaning
- Attention to the medical needs of the cat (if any)
- Time to love, snuggle, play and socialize with your foster(s)
- Taking your foster(s) to the adoption sites on the weekends
- Proof you own your house or we need to speak with your landlord to approve your foster kitty is welcome.
- Need to know about the pets you have in your house and they are all up to date on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.
- You need to know that most of our kitties have come from bad situations and may need some extra TLC to become adoptable.
- In the end there isn’t anything more rewarding than seeing your foster baby learn to trust and get adopted.
- None of the rescues we do at MMKR would be possible without our amazing volunteers that take the time to nurture and love cats and kittens that have never know the kindness of a human.
- Please take the time to fill out a foster application and help a momma cat and her kittens. They need a warm place to stay, lots of cuddles and to know they won't go another day without food.
